Spring Lake

Located in Ottawa County within Spring Lake Township, Spring Lake is a city of just over 2,000 residents in southwestern Michigan.

The first western settler to arrive in the area was Captain Benjamin Hopkins, who came to the area in 1837 with the intention of purchasing a mill. In 1849, the area was named Mill Point, and the name became official in 1851 when the first post office was established in the area. That post office still stands today, although the name was changed in 1867 to Spring Lake. The Village of Spring Lake was incorporated in 1869.

The Spring Lake Public Schools operate five schools in the community, including: two elementary schools (Jeffers and Holmes Elementary), Spring Lake Intermediate School, Spring Lake Middle School, and Spring Lake High School. Amtrak service to Chicago and Detroit is available in nearby Grand Rapids.

In close proximity to Lake Michigan, Spring Lake residents have access to a number of nearby communities with beach access and amenities, most notably in Grand Haven. Popular activities in the summer months include: fishing, boating, water sports, sailing, and numerous other recreational opportunities. With over 100 miles of walking and biking trails, there are plenty of opportunities for off-the-water enjoyment. The central attraction is the Grand Haven State Park, which has been recognized by Good Morning America as having one of the top 5 beaches in the United States. With 174 campsites and a large pier with a scenic boardwalk that runs for nearly a mile, the state park draws thousands of visitors in the summer months.
