Affectionally known as "The Christmas Card Town," Elkhorn is a traditional city that prides itself on its historical downtown and quintessential small-town atmosphere. The city was given the moniker before World War II because of its unique holiday decorations. Over the years, various locations of Elkhorn have been featured in watercolor paintings during the holidays and used for greeting cards. The tradition continues each season with a with a local artist depicting the city's landmarks.
Downtown Elkhorn is home to a selection of local stores and restaurants and is also known for community events including a Memorial Day parade, food truck festival, and Oktoberfest. A variety of parks, community center, and public pool provide residents with ample opportunity for outdoor activities, as well as organized teams, classes, and programs for all ages. Additionally, the city has been home to the Walworth County fair since 1851, one of the largest fairs in the nation.
