The historic home of General Motors Headquarters, New Center was established around the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Grand Boulevard in the 1920s and formed a convenient center point between Downtown Detroit and the factories that lay outside city limits. Today, New Center features many office buildings, retail options, and a number of bars and restaurants, along with a blend of single-family homes and apartments. The neighborhood is adjacent to Wayne State University, the third largest university in Michigan, and encompasses several major healthcare facilities.
