Irvington is characterized by its tree-lined streets and gorgeous green spaces.

With non-profits such as the Irvington Garden Club, Irvington Community Council, Irvington House Society, and Irvington Development Organization, the community offers a number of outlets for community members to get involved and work together to enhance Irvington.

Ellenberger Park is a neighborhood hotspot featuring playgrounds, a swimming pool, tennis courts, baseball and football fields, and a multi-use indoor rental space. Meanwhile, Irving Circle Park is home to the Irvington Farmers Market and various concerts, as well as a fountain, pool, baseball diamonds, trails, and tennis courts. Additional recreational activities can be found on the Pennsy Trail and Pleasant Run Greenway.

Every year, people across Indianapolis join Irvington to celebrate Halloween with a week-long festival that includes spooky stories, haunted tours, a 5K race, and a street fair.

As the largest locally protected historic district, Irvington features approximately 2,800 buildings and 1,600 parcels of land. Landmarks include the Benton House, Bona Thompson Memorial Center, Irvington Masonic Lodge, George Julian House, and dozens of homes within the district.
