Dunn Loring

Welcome to the historic town of Dunn Loring, where the past and present meet in perfect harmony. Founded in 1886, Dunn Loring was the earliest platted subdivision in Fairfax County and played a significant role in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia. General William McKee Dunn, a retired Army brigadier general, and former Judge Advocate General, purchased around 600 acres of land located on the Washington, Ohio and Western Railroad. Together with George B. Loring, a former congressman, and Commissioner of Agriculture, and George H. LeFetra, a Washington temperance hotel proprietor, they formed the Loring Land and Improvement Company, which built a railroad station and a post office in the area.

Although the development of Dunn Loring initially stagnated after General Dunn's death, it experienced a resurgence during the Spanish-American War, with the establishment of Camp Russell A. Alger. In 1912, Fairfax Shield McCandlish bought out the interests of the developers, consolidated parcels, and subdivided the land into its current platting. Today, Dunn Loring is a thriving town located in northeastern Fairfax County, bordering Vienna to the west, Tysons Corner to the north, and the Capital Beltway to the east.

Dunn Loring is just 14 miles west of downtown Washington, D.C. and is easily accessible via the major roadways of Interstate 66 and Interstate 495. The town is equidistant from Washington Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, making it a convenient destination for travelers.
