Highland

Highland is more than a small town. It's a community full of unique traditions like world-championship ping-pong tournaments and an early Fourth of July celebration. It's also a haven for nature enthusiasts. The nearby Hoosier Prairie State Nature Preserve boasts 1,547 acres with several trails for visitors to see native plants and animals. Highland's Heron Rookery is a bird watcher's paradise, showcasing blue herons, owls, and a variety of other native and migratory birds. Highland residents have access to dozens of area parks with a number of amenities. Wicker Memorial Park features an 18-hole golf course, a playground, picnic areas, a splash pad, three miles of trails, volleyball and tennis courts, and a dog run. Residents can also take advantage of the Lincoln Community Center, which includes an open gym, track, and fitness classes. Meanwhile, Highland Parks and Recreation offers an array of fitness and lifestyle programs.   Downtown Highland features mid-century modern architecture and is home to Main Square Park's gazebo, where locals enjoy community events and festivals. Highland residents can travel to and from downtown Chicago via I-90 and I-94.
