Wayne

Miles of equestrian paths, dozens of horse farms, and plenty of riding centers await in the Village of Wayne.

Incorporated in 1958, Wayne was once a prominent horse-breeding center in the late 19th and early 20th century. The Village was known for breeding French Percheron horses, which are similar to Clydesdales.

Today, the community remains proud of its unique history, equestrian heritage, and nature preserves. Offering a rural and relaxed atmosphere, Wayne has been recognized as one of the safest communities in Illinois. Wayne is also characterized by its volunteer-driven community and citizen participation in local affairs.

At 3,433 acres, Pratt’s Wayne Woods Forest Preserve in Wayne is the largest forest preserve in the county. It offers great fishing and a place to fly model planes. It’s also home to the Brewster Creek Marsh Nature Preserve. Residents enjoy hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding on more than 12 miles of forest preserve trails as well as picnicking in designated areas.

Homes vary from small bungalows to multimillion-dollar estates with a variety of homes on one to three acres. Most of the homes were built in the 1970s, although some date back to the late 19th century. Residents have access to Metra railroad stations in Geneva, Bartlett or West Chicago for access to downtown Chicago.

The village is served by St. Charles District 303 in the south and west portions of the village; and by Elgin Area School district U-46 in its central, north and east portions.
