The Village of Summit is a pretty sweet place to call home for residents and for industry.
The village is home to several food-related businesses and manufacturers of corn syrup, baking powder and cooking oil.
The largest corn milling and processing plant in the world is located in a section called “Argo” after one of the company’s products.
Summit also is the setting for Ernest Hemingway’s short story “The Killers”, written in the 1920s during Prohibition and the height of organized crime.
Cook County School District 104 serves elementary and middle school students; high school students are served Argo Community High School District 217.
Residents have access to all means of transportation including a station for Amtrak and Metra’s Heritage Corridor; Chicago Transit Authority buses; and nearby expressways. The Stevenson Expressway (I55) runs through the northwest side of the village; and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) is located 3 miles southwest.
